Forums for development information on GigaWidget
I wasn't going to add to these pages so soon, but there seems to be alot of questions coming up on where and how
we get the unobtainium. Although, as I'm sure you know, there's just not much of it to be mined, we do have
several mines in the US that render around 3oz/day each. Although this doesn't sound like much, it only takes
1/16th of an ounce to build a Gigawidget!
As we continue to investigate new methods of production and distribution, we'll include the latest technologes.

Ok, so a little bit on the building process. It became obvious early on that milling was going to be a big
function of the process. By using a machine like the Variax, we were able to keep the motor and cutting head
fixed, thus increasing the accuracy of the part and cut. With the variety of teeth available, the correct
configuration must be determined for each project. The helix angle, for example, helps slow the application of
forces, in a more distributed fashion.
As we did not have access to a Bridgeport CNC, many of the task were accomplished by hand. In the end, this is what
makes a gigawidget unique.
